Season 2019

Opening 2019

Season 2019 opened officially on 13th April on a sunny if somewhat chilly day. President Chris Lebessis introduced the guests and then welcomed 14 new members to the club most of whom were present on the day.  Anne Blain threw the first jack and then a five rink competition between  President's and Vice-President's teams took place, which the former won (without, it has to be said, much help from the President's rink!)

Sunday Jackpot Pairs

A new  mixed Sunday Jackpot Pairs competition was tried out starting on Sunday 9th June at 2 pm. There is an entry fee but a chance for everyone (winners and losers) to win the jackpot each week.  The matches will mainly be in the form of three bowl pairs. When the matches are complete a draw will be made for a number between 1 and 20, and if the shots difference in any match is the same as the number drawn, the jackpot (initially £60) will be shared among the players in that match. Everyone has a chance to win! If no score matches the number drawn, the entry fees go toward increasing the jackpot in the following week. Entries can be made in advance on the Social Events notice board, or just come down on Sunday before 1.45 pm.

Finals

After a somewhat soggy season Finals Day proved to be one of the hottest days of the year. Three men's finals and two ladies finals took place with Netta Moffatt winning the ladies championship (having reached the final on five previous occasions), with Corina Robertson as runner up. In the Gents Championship Alistair Gunn retained his title, with Jim Cuthbertson as runner up. The closest finish of the day came in the Ladies Vice President' trophy when Ginny Thorburn scored four shots to pip Hazel Rodgers 21-20. Willie Stewart defeated Peter Macfarlane in the Vice President's competition in another close match. The final of the men's triples saw Walter Irvine, Alex Sinclair and Ian Bowie defeat David Linley, Bill Dick and Frank Kennedy.

The reserve Finals day on Sunday 25th August proved equally hot and saw Irene Harrison defeat Netta Moffatt in the Ladies President's trophy. George McLaughlin defeated Bill Dick in the 'Junior' event (i.e.Under 70), and Walter Irvine and Alistair Gunn defeated Jim Cuthbertson and Colin Beattie in the men's pairs.
The Mixed Pairs went to the 'usual culprits' Christina and Frank Kennedy, with Corina and Forbes Robertson as runners up.
